Polaris Scrambler, Polaris Sportsman Recall

Polaris is expanding its recall of 2004 all terrain vehicles. The recall started in February 2008 and involved melting electronic control modules that could result in fires. Apparently defective EMC units were installed during service work that resulted when owners may have complained of electrical problems.

The affected units include the 2004 Polaris Scrambler 500, Sportsman 400, Sportsman 500, Sportsman 6 x 6. Affected models are in the chart below:

The ATVs were sold by Polaris dealers nationwide between July 2004 and January 2008 at prices ranging up to $8,000.

If you've got one of these recalled Polaris atv's, safety officials say you should disconnect the negative (black) battery cable from the battery when the atv is not being used and contact your dealer for immediate repairs.
